Rodney Shakespeare — political commentator and visiting professor of binary economics at Trisakti University in Jakarta — delivers a stark warning about the collapse of international law and Western moral credibility.
In a scathing analysis, Shakespeare condemns Israel’s attack on Iran as a blatant act of lawlessness by a nuclear-armed state outside the Non-Proliferation Treaty, backed by the USA and UK. He exposes the UK government’s complicity, critiques Israel’s colonial aggression in Palestine, and warns that public opinion in Britain is turning sharply against political leaders who continue to support genocide in Gaza.
1- Please analyze the legal consequences of the Israeli attack and evaluate the British government’s official stance on the incident.
Israel sees itself as outside international law, as does the USA. The UK government is complicit in the unlawfulness. Iran is a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has rights under it, but Israel is not only not a member of this treaty, but has also attacked Iran’s nuclear program. Israel is not only NOT a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty but it secretly possesses around 400 nuclear bombs plus five Dolphin submarines with nuclear-armed cruise missiles.
2-The Grossi report emphasized that Iran did not move towards nuclear weapons, but Israel attacked Iran despite having a nuclear bomb. How do you assess the damage this attack has done to international law?
Israel is an out-of-control rabid attack dog which is committing genocide. It is shocking that the USA and UK are complicit in the genocide.
3-Israel has a history of grossly violating international treaties and ignoring international law, and consequently global peace in Palestine and especially in Gaza. What bias do you think governments should have?
Israel is a colonial entity in the land of others who it wishes to dispossess. Unfortunately, Israel is solidly backed by the USA and UK. Governments should uphold the rights of indigenous peoples and oppose colonialism.
4- Despite what it announced in its manifesto, the British government continues to provide political and military support to Israel. Does public opinion agree with this government’s approach?
This is a significant question because it is possible that the UK government is about to make a very big mistake. Two pop bands have taken radical positions against Israel and against genocide. If the UK government prosecutes the two bands it could stimulate an upswelling of outraged public opinion.
To wrap up, could you provide a summary?
In the UK public opinion is beginning to shift against the Zionist-supporting political establishment. UK people have had enough of the endless killing of civilians in Gaza (and the West Bank). The vicious cruelty being perpetrated by Israel will never be forgotten and British politicians would be wise to remember this because ordinary UK citizens have a strong sense of decency even if their present political leaders do not.
